The glories of Lord Nityananda as the incarnation of Lord Balarama are given in the revealed scriptures as follows:

Ananta-Samhita

nityanando maha-kayo, bhutva mat-kirtane ratah;
vimudhan bhakti-rahitan, mama bhaktan karisyasi.

In the Ananta-Samhita, the Lord states to Anantadeva: "When I appear in Navadvipa in Kali-yuga , You will become Nityananda. You will have a very tall, beautiful and large body, and You will be constantly absorbed in chanting My name and glories. In this way, by Your causeless mercy You will convert many bewildered fools who are devoid of devotion into My pure unalloyed devotees."

Vayu Purana

(1) balaramo mamaivamsah, so 'pi mat-prstham esyati;
nityananda iti khyato nyasi-cudamanih ksitau

In the Vayu Purana, the Lord tells Brahma: "Lord Balarama, who is My first expansion and non-different from Me will also appear by My side as Lord Sri Nityananda. He will become the crest jewel of all renunciants on the earth."

(2) krtvavadhuta-vesam sa, dharman bhagavatan bahun;
grahayitva janan ittham grhinam asramam tatah.

"Assuming the dress of an avadhuta, He will freely distribute bhagavata dharma i.e. love of God. He will distribute this pure love through various means and deliver all the living entities. He will do so first as a brahmacari and later as a householder."

(3) jahnavy-adibhir atmanam, darsayisyati manavan.

"Accompanied by His eternal consort Shrimati Jahnavi-devi and many other intimate associates, He (Nityananda) will reveal His transcendental pastimes to the people."

(4) rudro 'vatirya mad-bhaktim, srimad-advaita-samjnakah;
grahiyisyati lokams ca, yatnat karunikah prabhuh.

"Lord Shiva will incarnate as My great devotee and His name will be Shrimad Advaita Acharya. Due to His unlimited compassion, He will give pure bhakti to each and everyone with great endeavour."

Urdhvamnaya-Tantra

panca-tattvamakam gauram, krsna-caitanya-samjnakam;
ye bhajanti navadvipe, te me priyatamah kila.

In the Urdhvamnaya-tantra, Lord Shiva declares to Parvati: "They who in Navadvipa worship Lord Gaura, who is known as Shri Krsna Chaitanya in His five features of Panca-tattva-Shri Krsna Chaitanya, Prabhu Nityananda, Shri Advaita Acharya, Shrila Gadadhara Pandita, Shrila Shrivasa Thakura alongwith all other associates of Lord Chaitanya-are most dear to me."

NITYANANDA-TATTVA
Nityananda and Advaita
Two Main Branches of the Caitanya Tree
5.1
advaita acarya, nityananda, dui anga
dui-jana lana prabhura yata kichu ranga
Nityananda Prabhu and Advaitacarya are the two expansions of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu who assist His transcendental pastimes. (Cc. Adi 5.146)
5.2
sankarsanah karana-toya-sayi
garbhoda-sayi ca payobdhi-sayi
sesas ca yasyamsa-kalah sa nitya-
nandakhya-ramah saranam mamastu
May Sri Nityananda Prabhu be the object of my constant remembrance. Sankarsana, Mahavisnu, Garbhodaksayi Visnu, and Ksirodaksayi Visnu, as well as Sesa are His expansions and the expansions of His expansions. That same Nityananda Prabhu, is none other than Balarama. (Cc. Adi 1.7)
5.3
mayatite vyapi-vaikuntha-loke
purnaisvarye sri-catur-vyuha-madhye
rupam yasyodbhati sankarsanakhyam
tam sri-nityananda-ramam prapadye
I surrender unto the lotus feet of Sri Nityananda Rama, who is known as Sankarsana in the midst of the catur-vyuha. He has full opulences and resides in Vaikunthaloka far beyond the material creation. (Cc. Adi 1.8)
5.4
maya-bhartajanda-sanghasrayangah
sete saksat karanambhodhi-madhye
yasyaikamsah sri-puman adi-devas
tam sri-nityananda-ramam prapadye
I offer my full obeisances unto the feet of Sri Nityananda Rama, whose partial representation called Karanodakasayi Visnu, lying on the Karana ocean, is the original Purusa, the master of the illusory energy and the shelter of all the universes. (Cc. Adi 1.9)
5.5
yasyamsamsah srila-garbhoda-sayi
yan-nabhy-abjam loka-sanghata-nalam
loka-srastuh sutika-dhama dhatus
tam sri-nityananda-ramam prapadye
I offer my full obeisances unto the feet of Sri Nityananda Rama, a partial part of whom is Garbhodaksayi Visnu. From the navel of Garbhodaksayi Visnu sprouts the lotus stem that is the birthplace of Brahma, the engineer of the Universe. The stem of that lotus is the resting place of the multitude of planets. (Cc. Adi 1.10)
5.6
yasyamsamsamsah paratmakhilanam
posta visnur bhati dugdhabdhi-sayi
ksauni-bharta yat-kala so 'py anantas
tam sri-nityananda-ramam prapadye
I offer my full obeisances unto the feet of Sri Nityananda Rama, whose secondary part is the Visnu lying in the ocean of milk. That Ksirodakasayi Visnu is the Supersoul of all living entities and the maintainer of all the universe. Sesa Naga is His further sub-part. (Cc. Adi 1.11)
Baladeva is the Original Sankarsana
5.7
sri-balarama gosani mula-sankarsana
panca-rupa dhari' karena krsnera sevana
apane karena krsna-lilara sahaya
srsti-lila-karya kare dhari' cari kaya
Lord Balarama is the original Sankarsana. He assumes five other forms to serve Lord Krsna. He helps in the pastimes of Lord Krsna, and He does the work of creation in four other forms. (Cc. Adi 5.8,9)
Balarama and Nityananda are Nondifferent
5.8
prema-pracarana ara pasanda-dalana
dui-karye avadhuta karena bhramana
For two purposes to spread the cult of bhakti and to defeat and subdue the atheists Lord Nityananda, the most dedicated devotee of the Lord, moved throughout the country. (Cc. Antya 3.149)
The Glories of Nityananda Prabhu
5.9
jagat mataya nitai premera malasate
palaya durdanta kali padiya vibhrate
ki sukhe bhasila jiva gauracandera nate
dekhiya suniya pasandira buk phate
[All glories to Nityananda Prabhu!] Maddened by ecstatic love of Godhead, he overwhelmed the universe with ecstasy. He slapped his hands together like a warrior who is about to attack, and upon seeing this, the wicked Kali fled in terror, fearing for his life. All souls were drowned in happiness because of the dancing of Sri Gauranga [and Nityananda]. Seeing such dancing, or even hearing of it, melts the hearts even of great atheists. (Gitavali, Nagara-kirtana, 8)
5.10
jaya jaya nityananda, nityananda-rama
yanhara krpate painu vrndavana-dhama
jaya jaya nityananda, jaya krpa-maya
yanha haite painu rupa-sanatanasraya
yanha haite painu raghunatha-mahasaya
yanha haite painu sri-svarupa-asraya
sanatana-krpaya painu bhaktira siddhanta
sri-rupa-krpaya painu bhakti-rasa-pranta
jaya jaya nityananda-caranaravinda
yanha haite painu sri-radha-govinda
All glory, all glory to Lord Nityananda Balarama, by whose mercy I have attained shelter in the transcendental abode of Vrndavana. All glory, all glory to the merciful Lord Nityananda, by whose mercy I have attained shelter of Sri Rupa and Sanatana. By His mercy, I have attained the shelter of the great Sri Raghunatha dasa Gosvami, and by His mercy I have found the refuge of Sri Svarupa Damodara. By the mercy of Sanatana Gosvami I have learned the final conclusions of devotional service, and by the grace of Sri Rupa Gosvami I have tasted the highest nectar of devotional service. All glory, all glory to the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda, by whose mercy I have attained Sri Radha-Govinda. (Cc. Adi. 5.200-204)
Nityananda is the Savior of the Most Fallen
5.11
jagai madhai haite muni se papistha
purisera kita haite muni se laghistha
mora nama sune yei tara punya ksaya
mora nama laya yei tara papa haya
emana nirghrna more keba krpa kare
eka nityananda vinu jagat bhitare
preme matta nityananda krpa-avatara
uttama, adhama, kichu na kare vicara
ye age padaye, tare karaye nistara
ataeva nistarila mo-hena duracara
I am more sinful than Jagai and Madhai and even lower than the worms in stool. Anyone who hears my name loses the results of his pious activities. Whoever utters my name becomes sinful. Who in this world but Nityananda could show His mercy to such an abominable person as me? Because He is intoxicated by ecstatic love and is an incarnation of mercy, He does not distinguish between the good and the bad. He delivers all those who fall down before Him. Therefore He has delivered such a sinful and fallen person as me. (Cc. Adi 5.205-209)
Freedom from Anarthas and the Desire for Bhakti
is Strengthened by the Mercy of Nitai
5.12
samsarera para hai' bhaktira sagare
ye dubibe se bhajuk nitai-candere
One who would cross over the ocean of material existence and swim in the bhakti ocean should worship the lotus feet of Nityananda. (Cb. Adi 1.77)
Nityananda is the Foremost Preacher
5.13
caitanyera adi-bhakta nityananda-raya
caitanyera yaso vaise yanhara jihvaya
ahar nisa caitanyera katha prabhu kaya
tan're bhajile se caitanye bhakti haya
Lord Caitanya's first and foremost devotee is Nityananda Raya. The glories of Lord Caitanya are always on his tongue. Day and night Lord Nityananda speaks only of Lord Caitanya. Whoever worships Him is a real devotee of Sri Caitanya. (Cb. Adi 9.217-218)
Nityananda mad About Serving Sri Caitanya
5.14
nityananda avadhuta sabate agala
caitanyera dasya-preme ha-ila pagala
Nityananda, the wandering mendicant, is the foremost of all the servants of Lord Caitanya. He is like the gateway through which all service to Lord Caitanya must pass. He became mad in the ecstasy of service to Lord Caitanya. (Cc. Adi 6.48)
Those who Have no Faith that Gaura and Nitai
are Inseparable are Offenders and Atheists
5.15
dui bhai eka-tanu samana-prakasa
nityananda na mana, tomara habe sarva-nasa
ekete visvasa, anye na kara sammana
"ardha-kukkuti-nyaya" tomara pramana
These two brothers (Gaura and Nitai) are like one body; they are identical manifestations. If you do not believe in Lord Nityananda, you will fall down. If you have faith in one, but disrespect the other, your logic is like the logic of accepting half a hen. (Cc. Adi 5.175,176)
Faith in Gaura Without Nitai, or Nitai Without Gaura,
is Flickering Faith and in Opposition to Pure Devotional Service
5.16
kimva, dooha na manina hao ta' pasanda
eke mani' are na mani, ei-mata bhanda
It would be better to be an atheist by slighting both brothers than a hypocrite by believing in one and slighting the other. (Cc. Adi 5.177)
Thus ends the Fifth Jewel of Gaudiya Kanthahara, entitled Nityananda-tattva.

February 15th, 2003, Friday (Trayodasi)
The Supremely Auspicious Appearance Day of Lord Shri Nityananda Balarama

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Supreme Benediction for the World - The name of Lord Nityananda
The Best Way to Worship Lord Nityananda is by the chanting of His Name

THE NAME 'NITYANANDA' IMMEDIATELY EVOKES TEARS AND ECSTASY OF PURE LOVE FOR KRISHNA EVEN IN A SINFUL PERSON

Chaitanya-charitamrita Adi-lila 8.23:
`nityananda' balite haya krsna-premodaya;aulaya sakala anga,asru-ganga vaya.

"Simply by chanting the name 'Nityananda' one awakens his love for Krsna. Thus all his bodily limbs are agitated by ecstasy of love of God, and tears flow from his eyes like the waters of the Ganges."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

ANYONE WHO EVEN HEARS 'NITYANANDA' ONCE CERTAINLY ACHIEVES KRISHNA

Chaitanya-bhagavata, Adi-khanda 9.385:
nityananda-hena bhakta sunile sravane; avasya paibe krsnacandra sei jane.

Shripada Madhavendera Puri states:

"If one simply hears the name 'Nityananda', he will most certainly attain the lotus feet of Lord Krishnacandra irrespective of any other consideration."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

BY CHANTING THE NAMES OF NITYANANDA & GAURANGA, SINFUL REACTIONS OF UNLIMITED NO. OF LIVES ARE IMMEDIATELY DESTROYED

Sri Navadvipa-dhama-mahatmya, Chp 1, states:

gauranga-nityananda yei bale eka bara; ananta karama-dosa anta haya tara.

"The most fortunate person who chants the names Nityananda and Gauranga just once immediately destroys the unlimited sinful reactions accumulated for unlimited number of past lives."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

BY CHANTING NITYANANDA & GAURANGA, KRISHNA-PREMA COMES SEARCHING AFTER THAT PERSON. ONE ACHIEVES KRISHNA-PREMA EVEN WITH OFFENSES IN HIS HEART AND THEN OFFENSES FLEE. WHAT A SUBLIME AND EASY WAY TO GET KRISHNA-PREMA!

nitai-caitanya bali yei jiva dake; suvimala krsna-prema anvesaye thake.

"If one calls out the names of Nityananda and Gauranga, the purest Krsna-prema (pure love of Krsna) comes searching after such a person."

aparadha badha tara kichu nahi kare; nirmala krsna-preme tara ankhi jhare.

"The offenses (which may be present) don't create any obstacles in path of achieving this love and tears start flowing from his eyes in pure ecstatic love."

svalpa kale aparadha apani palaya; hrdaya sodhita haya prema bade taya.

"In a very short, the offenses themselves flee and the heart becomes completely purified and thus the love furthur increases.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

GREAT ACHARYAS HAVE CONSTANTLY CHANTED THE NAME OF NITYANANDA ON BEADS AS WELL AS IN KIRTANA

Cc Adi 11.33:
navadvipe purusottama pandita mahasaya, nityananda-name yanra mahonmada haya

Purusottama Pandita, a resident of Navadvipa, was the Krishna's eighth gopala, Stoka-Krsna for Vrindavan. He would become almost mad as soon as he chanted or heard the holy name 'Nityananda'.

Cc Adi 11.34
balarama dasa--krsna-prema-rasasvadi, nityananda-name haya parama unmadi

Balarama dasa always fully tasted the nectar of love of Krsna. Upon chanting or hearing the name of 'Nityananda', he would become extremely maddened.

nityananda bali' yabe karena hunkara, taha dekhi' lokera haya maha-camatkara

"Minaketana Ramadasa, the great associate of Lord Nityananda who loudly call ot the name of 'Nityananda' constantly and by hearing this the people around him were filled with great wonder and astonishment."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shrila Visvanatha Chakravarti Thakura in Sri Ksanada-gita-cintamani:

patita durgata yata kali-hata yara, nitai caitanya bali nace gaya tara

"The fallen, misguided and unfortunate souls devastated by Kali-yuga will dance in ectsasy when they chant the names of Nityananda and Gauranga since this is the only way for their deliverance."
__________________________________________________________________________

Shrila Locana Dasa Thakura states:

nitai-gaura-nama, anandera dhama,
jei jana nahi laya
tare yamaraya, dhare laya jaya,
narake dubaya taya

"The transcendental names of Nityananda and Gauranga are the supreme abodes
of unlimited happiness. Those who don't chant the names of Nityananda and
Gauranga surely become victims of Yamaraja, the god of death. Yamaraja will
drag them and forcibly drown them in the most abominable hellish regions."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE WHOLE UNIVERSE IS PURIFIED BY CHANTING THE NAME OF 'NITYANANDA'

Shri Chaitanya-Bhagavata, Madhya-Khanda 3.134:

vanik adhama murkha ye karila para, brahmanda
pavitra haya nama laile yanra.

Translation:

"The entire universe is purified by chanting the name of Lord Nityananda as it is only He who delivered the fallen, the foolish, and the merchants."

Purport by Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

[...] nityanandera prabhura nama shravana karile jagatera sakala lokera papa-pravrtti prashamita haiya pavitra tara udaya haya. vanik, adhama, murkha - iharau pavitra haiya brahmajna u bhagavad-bhakta hana.

"Simply by chanting or hearing the name of Lord Nityananda, the sinful inclinations in the hearts of all the living entities in the universe are permanently destroyed and their inherent purity is automatically awakened. On chanting or hearing the name of Lord Nityananda, even the merchants, degraded, fallen and foolish people are purified and immediately become realized in the Absolute Truth and devotees of the Lord."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

BECAUSE WITHOUT NITYANANDA ONE CAN NEVER ACHIEVE THE MERCY OF GAURANGA EVEN AFTER WORSHIPING GAURANGA FOR A MINIMUM 100 LIVES

From Shri Navadvipa-dhama-mahatmya, Chp 4:

tumi yabe kara daya sei anayase; sri caitanya-pada paya prema-jale bhase.

Srila Jiva tells Lord Nityananda, "If You are merciful on someone, that person will effortlessly achieve the lotus feet of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and thus drown in the ocean of pure ecstatic love for Lord Krsna.

tomara karuna vina gaura nahi paya, sata janma bhaje yadi gauranga hiyaya.

"But if someone does not get Your mercy, then such a person will never achieve Lord Gaura even if he or she worships Lord Gauranga for a minimum of 100 lifetimes."

Chaitanya-charitamrita Antya 6.131:
tomara krpa vina keha`caitanya' na paya;tumi krpa kaile tanre adhameha paya.

"No one can attain the shelter of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu without Your (Lord Nityananda's) mercy, but if You are merciful, even the lowest of men can attain shelter at His lotus feet."
_________________________________________________________________________

BECAUSE IF GAURANGA'S PUNISHES, NITYANANDA PROTECTS US BUT IF NITYANANDA PUNISHES THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO HOPE

From Shri Navadvipa-dhama-mahatmya, Chp 4: Jiva Goswami to Lord Nityananda:
gaura danta kara yadi tumi raksa kara, tumi yare danta kara gaura tara para.

"If Lord Gauranga punishes a devotee, You (Nityananda) protect him and somehow engage him in Gauranga's service (like in the example of Kala Krsnadasa), but if You punish a devotee, he eternally becomes estranged from Lord Gauranga."
_________________________________________________________________________

BECAUSE NITYANANDA'S NAME AND FORM ARE FULL OF SUPREME ETERNAL BLISS

Chaitanya-bhagavata, Madhya-khanda 12.18:
name nityananda tumi, rupe nityananda; ei tumi nityananda rama murttimanta.

Lord Gauranga tells Lord Nityananda:

"Your name is Nityananda (eternally full of eternal bliss). Your form is also Nityananda (eternally full of eternal bliss). Your are Nityananda (unlimited bliss) in personified form because You are Lord Balarama Himself."
_________________________________________________________________________

BECAUSE WITHOUT NITYANANDA ONE CAN NEVER ACHIEVE RADHA-KRSNA AND VRINDAVNA-DHAMA

Chaitanya-charitamrita Adi 5.204:
jaya jaya nityananda-caranaravinda, yanha haite painu sri-radha-govinda

"All glory, all glory to the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda, by whose mercy I have attained Sri Radha-Govinda!"

Shrila Narottama das Thakura sings:
heno nitai vine bhai, radha-krishna paite nai

"Unless one worships Nityananda, one can never achieve Radha-Krsna."

nitae karuna habe vraje radha-krsna pabe

"If Nityananda is merciful, only then one will achieve the direct service of Radha-Krsna in Vraja."
_________________________________________________________________________

BECAUSE NO ONE IN THIS CREATION BUT ONLY LORD NITYANANDA AND HIS NAME CAN BESTOW MERCY ON THE MOST FALLEN SOULS LIKE US

Chaitanya-charitamrita Adi 5.207:
emana nirghrna more keba krpa kare, eka nityananda vinu jagat bhitare

"Who in this creation but Lord Nityananda could show His mercy to such an abominable, comtemptible and the lowest person as me?
_________________________________________________________________________

BECAUSE LORD NITYANANDA BESTOWS MERCY WITHOUT EVEN CONSIDERING OUR QUALIFICATION

Chaitanya-charitamrita Adi 5.208-9:
preme matta nityananda krpa-avatara, uttama, adhama, kichu na kare vicara

"Because He is always fully intoxicated by ecstatic love for Lord Gauranga, He is an incarnation of causeless mercy. Thus He does not distinguish between the good and the bad people because He Himself is always intoxicated in pure love.

ye age padaye, tare karaye nistara, ataeva nistarila mo-hena duracara

"He indiscriminately delivers all those who simply fall down before Him. Therefore He has delivered such a sinful and fallen person as me."
_________________________________________________________________________

BECAUSE LORD NITYANANDA IMMEDIATELY BESTOWS HIS TOPMOST MERCY PLEASED AT A SLIGHTEST SERVICE RENDERED BY US

Cc Adi 5.181:
bhaike bhartsinu muni, lana ei guna, sei ratre prabhu more dila darasana

"That night Lord Nityananda personally appeared to me in a dream in His most enchanting form and placed His lotus feet on my head and gave me eternal residence in Shri Vrindavana-dhama simply because I defended His glories and that of His intimate associate Minaketana Ramadasa while quarelling with my brother who had faith in Lord Gauranga but only a shadow of faith in Lord Nityananda." (WHAT A MERCIFUL LORD!)
_________________________________________________________________________

BECAUSE ANYONE WHO HAS NO RELATION WITH NITYANANDA BY THE REGULAR CHANTING OF HIS NAME HAS WASTED HIS LIFE AND IS JUST LIKE AN ANIMAL

se sambandha nahi ja'r, brtha janma gelo ta'r
sei pasu boro duracar
nitai na bolilo mukhe, majilo samsara-sukhe
vidya-kule ki koribe tar (Narottama das Thakura)

"Anyone who has not established his relationship with Nityananda Prabhu by chanting His name 'Nityananda' is understood to have spoiled his valuable human birth. Such a human being is actually an uncontrollable animal. Because he never uttered the holy name 'Nityananda', he has become merged into so-called material happiness. What can his useless education and family tradition do to save him from the cycle of birth and death?"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

BECAUSE ONE CAN NEVER EVEN VISIT VRINDAVANA WITHOUT ACHIEVING THE MERCY OF NITYANANDA AND GAURANGA BY VERY REGULARLY CHANTING THEIR NAMES DAILY

Cc Adi 8.3 purport:

"In the beginning one should very regularly chant Sri Gaurasundara's holy name and then chant the holy name of Lord Nityananda. Thus one's heart will be cleansed of impure desires for material enjoyment. Then one can approach Vrndavana-dhama to worship Lord Krsna. Unless one is favored by Lord Caitanya and Nityananda, there is no need to go to Vrndavana, for unless one's mind is purified, he cannot see Vrndavana, even if he goes there."
______________________________________________________________________

THE HOLY NAMES OF NITYANANDA-GAURANGA ARE THE ONLY WAY FOR THE OFFENSIVE SOULS TO ACHIEVE LOVE OF GOD

In Shri Chaitanya-Charitamrita Adi-lila 8.31, Shrila Krishnadas Kaviraja Goswami states this verse for the benefit of all living entities:

caitanya-nityanande nahi esaba vicara
nama laite prema dena, vahe asrudhara

"But if one only chants, with faith or mechanically or even without sufficient faith the holy names of Lord Gauranga and Nityananda, very quickly he is cleansed of all offenses. Since in the chanting of the names of Nityananda-Gauranga there is no consideration of offenses like in the names of Krishna which one may chant for many many lifetimes with offenses without achieving love of Krishna, one will very quickly come to the stage of love of God and tears of pure love flow from his eyes, simply by chanting Gauranga-Nityananda's names."

Anubhasya by Om Visnupada Gaudiya Vaishnava Mukutmani Bhaskar Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

Bengali: krsna-nama aparadhera vicara karena, gaura-nityanandera name aparadhera vicara nai. aparadhi krsna-nama grahana karilei kakhanei nama-phala (krsna-prema) labha karena na. aparadhi thaka-kaleu gaura-nityanandera nama grahanakari nama karite karite aparadha mocanante nama-phala labha karena. ihara vicara o siddhanta ei je-gaura-nityanandera nikata krsna-vimukha sadhaka krsna unmukha haibara janya gamana karena. ara sadhanasiddha, anarthamukta krsnanmukera uccarya krsna-nama anarthayukta avasthaya kakhanei phala (krsna-prema)pradana kare na. gaura-nityananda anarthayukta jivera sevya-vastu haoyaya tahadera seva jivera krsnaseva apeksa adhiktara prayojaniya. sadhaka siksara apraptite siddhabhimane krsna-namera seva karite udyata haile tahara anarthaei asiya upasthita haya; kintu nitai-gaurera bhajane siddhabhimanera chalana na rakhiya anarthayukta avasthayeo jagadguru siksaka dvayera nikata upasthita haile tahara tahadigake anarthamukta karaiya tanhadigera svayam-rupa o svayam-prakasa svarupa uplabdhi karana. tahatei jivera svarupa-jnanera udaya haya.

Translation: "The Hare Krsna maha-mantra considers the offenses whereas the names of Gauranga-Nityananda don't consider offenses. An offensive chanter will never achieve the fruit of chanting (pure love for Krsna) simply by chanting the Hare Krsna maha-mantra."

*********************************************

(THE SECRET OF ALL SECRETS)

(Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta continues): "THEREORE TILL THE TIME HE IS COMMITTING OFFENSES, HE SHOULD REGULARLY CHANT THE NAMES OF GAURANGA-NITYANANDA WHICH ARE THE GRAHANAKARI-NAMA (MOST IMP NAMES TO BE ACCEPTED AND CHANTED) FOR THE SADHAKA IN THE ANARTHA-YUKA STAGE. DUE TO THE *REPEATED CHANTING OF THE NAMES OF GAURANGA-NITYANANDA, ALL THE OFFENSES WILL BE DESTROYED AND HE WILL VERY QUICKLY ACHIEVE THE FRUIT OF THE CHANTING, PURE LOVE OF KRSNA."

*********************************************

(Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada continues) "The philosophical principle behind these statements is as follows -- The aspirant who is averse to Lord Krsna approaches Lord Gauranga-Nityananda to become attracted to Lord Krsna. The Hare Krsna maha-mantra can only be uttered purely by the sadhaka who is on the perfected stage (sadhana-siddha) and who is free from all anarthas (unwanted things in the heart). If sadhakas full of offenses chant the maha-mantra, the maha-mantra will never give them love for Krsna.

"Thus Lord Gauranga-Nityananda are the most worshippable Lords for the souls who are full of offenses and Their Names are too. That is why Their service and the service of Their Names and Pastimes is more appropriate and beneficial for these unfortunate souls than even the service of Lord Krsna. If the sadhaka without hearing proper instructions, proudly thinks himself to be on the perfected stage and tries to render direct service to the Hare Krsna maha-mantra by chanting it, then the offenses will surely come and bar his progress. On the other hand, if the sadhaka who is full of offenses, gives up his sense of false pride of thinking himself on the perfected stage, and thus approaches and worships the two Jagadgurus Lord Nityananda-Gauranga and takes Their Names and instructions from Them, Their Pastimes and Their devotees, They will deliver him from all offenses and reward him with the realization of Their own forms (svarupas) of Svayam-Rupa (Lord Caitanya) and Svayam-Prakasa (Lord Nityananda). Then the soul realizes one own constitutional position in relation with the two Lords and thus achieves perfection."

Bengali: krsna-nama o gaura-nama,-ubhayei namira sahita abhinna. krsnke gaura apeksa laghu va sankirna baliya janile, uhake avidyara karya baliya janite haibe. prakrtapakse jivera prayojana-vicare sri gaura-nityanandera nama grahanera upayogita adhiktara. sri gaura-nityananda udara evam audaryera abhyantare madhura. krsnera udarta-kevala mukta, siddha asritajana ganera upara; gaura-nityanandera audarya-srote anarthayukta aparadhi jiva bhogamaya aparadhera haste haite mukta haiya gaura-krsnera pada-padma labha karena.

English translation (Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada continues): "The name of Krsna and Gauranga - both are non-different than the named Lord. Those who think that Krsna is any way inferior or limited than Gauranga are in gross ignorance."

*********************************************

(PRAYOJANA-VICARE - MORE USEFUL)

(Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada continues): "BUT IN PRACTICAL (PRAYOJANA) CONSIDERATIONS WITH RESPECT TO THE BENEFIT AWARDED TO THE CONDITIONED SOULS, THE CHANTING OF GAURANGA-NITYANANDA'S NAME IS **MORE USEFUL AND HELPFUL** FOR EVERY LIVING ENTITY. LORD KRISHNA'S MERCY IS GENERALLY ONLY UPON THE LIBERATED OR PERFECTED SOULS WHO ARE SURRENDERED TO HIM. BUT THE MAGNANIMITY AND MERCY OF LORD GAURANGA-NITYANANDA NAMES IS ESPECIALLY FOR THE SOULS WHO ARE OFFENDERS AND FULL OF ANARTHAS AND DESIRES FOR MATERIAL SENSE GRATIFICATION."

*********************************************

(Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada continues) "The chanting of Lord Gauranga-Nityananda's names and Their worship very quickly delivers the soul from all the offenses and thus the soul achieves shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Gauranga-Krsna."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The glories of Lord Nityananda as the incarnation of Lord Balarama, the origin of both the spiritual and material worlds, are given in the revealed scriptures as follows:

Vayu Purana

(1) balaramo mamaivamsah, so 'pi mat-prstham esyati;
nityananda iti khyato nyasi-cudamanih ksitau

In the Vayu Purana, the Lord tells Brahma: "Lord Balarama, who is My first expansion and non-different from Me will also appear by My side as Lord Sri Nityananda. He will become the crest jewel of all renunciants on the earth."

(2) krtvavadhuta-vesam sa, dharman bhagavatan bahun;
grahayitva janan ittham grhinam asramam tatah.

Ananta-Samhita

nityanando maha-kayo, bhutva mat-kirtane ratah;
vimudhan bhakti-rahitan, mama bhaktan karisyasi.

Shri Chaitanya-Charitamrita, Adi 1.8-9

sankarsanah karana-toya-sayi

May Sri Nityananda Rama be the object of my constant remembrance. Sankarsana, Sesa Naga and the Visnus who lie on the Karana Ocean, Garbha Ocean and ocean of milk are His plenary portions and the portions of His plenary portions.

mayatite vyapi-vaikuntha-loke
purnaisvarye sri-catur-vyuha-madhye

I surrender unto the lotus feet of Sri Nityananda Rama, who is known as Sankarsana in the midst of the catur-vyuha [consisting of Vasudeva, Sankarsana, Pradyumna and Aniruddha]. He possesses full opulences and resides in Vaikunthaloka, far beyond the material creation.

CONCLUSION:

One can worship the most merciful Lord Nityananda in the topmost manner by chanting His name (atleast a minimum of 1008 times or 10 rounds) daily and by daily reading (1 chapter of) Chaitanya-Bhagavata daily which is the topmost scripture on the glories of Lord Nityananda composed by His most confidential associate Shrila Vrindavana das Thakura. And also by daily worshiping the Deities of Lord Nityananda-Gauranga!

NITAI MORA JIVANA
"Lord Nityananda, the Wealth of My Life"
(by Srila Locana dasa Thakura)

1)
nitai mora jivana dhana nitai mora pati
nitai bihane mora ana nahi gati

O my Lord Nityananda, wealth of my life! O my master Nitai!
I have no other means of deliverance and destination in my life except the mercy of Lord Nityananda!

2)
samsara sukhera mukhe tuilya dia chai
nagare magiya khaba gahiya nitai

Leaving behind all worldly pleasures,
I want to reduce the happiness of family life to ashes.
Like a mendicant I shall live begging in town
and constantly singing and glorifying the holy name of Lord Nityananda.

3)
ye dese mora nitai nai sei dehe na yaba
nitai vihina kara mukha na dekhiba

Places where Lord Nityananda is not present I will not enter.
I will not even look at the faces of those who are even slightly averse to spreading the glories of the Name and Pastimes of Lord Nityananda.

4)
ganga yara pada jala harasire dhara
hena nitai na bhajiya dukha paiya mare

The water of the Ganga has emanated from His lotus feet
and Lord Siva has accepted it on his head.
In great distress the non-devotees give up their lives
without worshipping and chanting the name of Lord Nityananda.

5)
locana bale mora nitai yeba nahi mane
anala bhejai tara majha mukha kane

Locana dasa says, "I will light a fire in the mouths of those who do deliberately averse to worshiping and chanting the name of my Lord Nityananda."

SRI NITYANANDA PRANAMA:

I offer my humble obeisance unto Sri Nityananda Prabhu, who has a
single pearl dangling from one of His ears. He is the elder brother of Sri
Caitanya Mahaprabhu, and the purifier of the earth.

Let me always remember that brightly smiling face of Sri Nityananda
Prabhu, whose beautiful movement ridicules the graceful gait of an elephant.
His cloth resembles a cluster of blue lotus flowers and His bodily
effulgence conquers the splendor of the rising moon at sunset. His
prema-saturated rolling eyes defeat the pride of a restless khanjana bird
(wagtail).

SRI NITYANANDASTAKA
"Eight Prayers Glorifying Lord Nityananda"

by Srila Vrndavana dasa Thakura
(Translated by Kusakratha dasa)

TEXT 1

sarac-candra-bhrantim sphurad-amala-kantim gaja-gatim
hari-premonmattam dhrta-parama-sattvam smita-mukham
sadaghurnan-netram kara-kalita-vetram kali-bhidam
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of
devotional service. As He walks with the grace of a majestic elephant, His
pure, splendid beauty shines like the full autumn moon. Though He Himself is
the Absolute Truth, He is maddened with pure love for Lord Hari. He smiles
as He rolls His eyes in apparent intoxication, He carries a stick in His
hand [in the mood of a cowherd boy], and He breaks the power of the Age of
Kali.

TEXT 2

rasanam agaram svajana-gana-sarvasvam atulam
tadiyaika-prana-pramita-vasudha-jahnava-patim
sada-premonmadam param aviditam manda-manasam
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of
devotional service. He is the abode of the mellows of devotional service,
and no one can be compared to Him. He is the be-all and end-all for His
devotees, and the husband of Vasudha and Jahnava, to whom He is more dear
than life itself. Because He is always maddened with pure love for Krsna,
the foolish nondevotees cannot understand that He is the Supreme Personality
of Godhead Himself.

TEXT 3

saci-sunu-prestham nikhila-jagad-istam sukha-mayam
kalau majjaj-jivoddharana-karanoddama-karunam
harer akhyanad va bhava-jaladhi-garvonnati-haram
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of
devotional service. He is very dear to the son of Saci-devi and is worshiped
by the entire universe. Out of His great mercy He chants the holy name of
Lord Hari, thus rescuing the souls drowning in the age of Kali and crushing
the pride of the ocean of repeated birth and death.

TEXT 4

aye bhratar ninam kali-kalusinam kim nu bhavita
tatha prayascittam racaya yad-anayasata ime
vrajanti tvam ittham saha bhagavata mantrayati yo
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of
devotional service. He said to Lord Caitanya, "O brother, the people are all
becoming infected by the sins of Kali-yuga. How will they atone for these
sins? Please give them a way to easily approach You."

TEXT 5

yathestham re bhratah kuru hari-hari-dhvanam aniSam
tato vah samsarambudhi-tarana-dayo mayi laget
idam bahu-sphotair atati ratayan yah pratigrham
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of
devotional service. He went to each house in Bengal and, raising His arms,
said, " O brother, if you will, please constantly chant athe holy name of
Lord Hari. If you do this, you will become free from the ocean of repeated a
death. Please give Me this gift of your liberation."

TEXT 6

balat samsarambhonidhi-harana-kumbhodbhavam aho
satam sreyah-sindhunnati-kumuda-bandhum samuditam
khala-sreni-sphurjit-timira-hara-surya-prabham aham
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of
devotional service. He is the Agastya Muni who forcibly swallows the ocean
of repated death. He is a rising full moon (friend of the night-blooming
lotus) who expands the ocean of the saintly devotees' good fortune. He is
the blazing sun who extinguishes the darkness of the community of demons.

TEXT 7

natantam gayantam harim anuvadantam pathi pathi
vrajantam pasyantam svam api na dayantam jana-ganam
prakurvantam santam sa-karuna-drg-antam prakalanad
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of
devotional service. He traveled on every path, dancing, singing the names of
Lord Hari, and describing His glories. Without considering His own
interests, He was merciful to the people, and He cast upon them His
merciful sidelong glance.

TEXT 8

su-bibhranam bhratuh kara-sarasijam komalataram
mitho vaktralokocchalita-paramananda-hrdayam
bhramantam madhuryair ahaha madayantam pura-janan
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of
devotional service. He fondly grasped His brother Lord Caitanya's soft and
beautiful lotus hand, and together they wandered here and there, delighting
the townspeople with Their sweet beauty. They both became filled with bliss
when They gazed upon each other's lotus faces.

TEXT 9

rasanam adharam rasika-vara-sad-vaisnava-dhanam
rasagaram saram patita-tati-taram smaranatah
param nityanandastakam idam apurvam pathati yah
tad-anghri-dvandvabjam sphuratu nitaram tasya hrdaye

These eight verses glorifying Lord Nityananda are the abode of the
mellows of devotional service, and they are the wealth of the pure devotees
expert at relishing those mellows. All the fallen, conditioned souls can get
liberation just by remembering them. These verses are very excellent,
transcendental, and unprecedented. May the two lotus feet of Lord Nityananda
appear eternally in the hearts of those who read these verses and remember
the Lord.

Shri Nityananda-Stuti by Lord Gauranga Himself
CBh Madhya-khanda

4.34

visvambhara bale,-"subha divasa amara
dekhilana bhakti-yoga-cari-veda-sara

Lord Visvambhara said, "Today is an aupicious day for Me, for I have seen devotional service, which is the essence of the four Vedas.

Purport by Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada

Devotional service alone is the purport and essence of the four Vedas. The Vedic literatures have ascertained devotional service as the only "essence." When the living entity's full knowledge is awakened, then devotional service, which is his eternal propensity, is aroused. A heart that is filled with the service attitude is qualified to achieve knowledge of the Supreme Lord, and, after achieving knowledge, it becomes fixed in the service of the Lord.

4.35
e-kampa, e asru, e garjana huhunkara
eha ki isvara-sakti bai haya ara

"Are such shivering, such tears, and such loud roaring possible for anyone other than one who is empowered by the Lord?

4.36
sakrt e bhakti-yoga nayane dekhile
tahare o krsna na chadena kona-kale

"Krsna will never forsake even one who directly sees such exalted devotional service exhibited by Lord Nityananda."

Krsna can never leave the fortunate servant who sees such mental and physical transformations of love in the course of Nityananda's service.

4.37-43

mahabhagye dekhilama tomara carana
toma bhajile se pai krsna-prema-dhana"

avista haiya prabhu gauranga-sundara
nityanande stuti kare-nahi avasara

"O Nityananda, I have understood that You are the manifestation of the Lord's full energy, therefore only by worshiping You a living entity attains devotional service to Krsna. You are able to purify the fourteen worlds. Your confidential characteristics are inconceivable and unfathomable. Who is qualified to recognize You, for You are the personified wealth of loving devotion to Lord Krsna. If a person associates with You for even a moment by chanting Your name even once, he will be delivered even if he has committed millions of sinful activities. I have understood that Krsna will deliver Me, because He has given Me Your association. Out of great fortune I have seen Your lotus feet. Just by worshiping You I will achieve the wealth of love for Krsna." Lord Gauranga was fully absorbed as He incessantly offered prayers to Nityananda.

Gaurasundara was fully absorbed as He offered incessant prayers to to Nityananda. He said, "You are the full manifestation of the Lord's energy and the personification of the sandhini-sakti. Just by serving You a living entity's propensity for serving Krsna is awakened. O Nityananda, You are capable of easily purifying the seven upper planetary systems of Satya, Jana, Mahah, Tapah, Bhuh, Bhuvah, and Svar as well as the seven lower planetary systems headed by Atala. Your activities are beyond the jurisdiction of the living entities' mental perception. Your confidential characteristics are incomprehensible to the living entities. In fact, no one is able to understand You in truth. You are the direct manifestation of Krsna's loving devotion. If anyone infested with millions of sinful activities attains Your association for even a moment, he can never be called unfortunate. Though he is sinful, he is nevertheless most fortunate. I have clearly understood that Lord Krsna has sent You to deliver Me. One who worship You will certainly attain the wealth of love for Krsna. Since I have attained the good fortune of seeing Your lotus feet, it is to be understood that I have met with some particularly good fortune.
